Property code: OC-FOXCOT

This delightful cottage in the picturesque coastal village of Lynmouth has been renovated and refurbished to a high standard. Sitting on the hillside overlooking the East Lyn Valley, wonderful river views can be enjoyed from the living area and master bedroom. The property has a modern style, yet the original character of this 17th-century cottage can still be seen in the beams, inglenook, low thresholds and steep and narrow stairs.

Quietly situated in an elevated position with steps and a sloping pathway to the entrance, you’ll find a stable door that opens into the open-plan living area with a comfortable sofa and a cushioned window seat ideal for enjoying the views. This space has an electric fire in an inglenook, a TV and a PlayStation 3 for watching DVDs. A stylish kitchen area has been well designed and offers all you need to enjoy preparing meals. Steep stairs lead up to the first floor where a spacious double room overlooks the river with a shower room with a large walk-in shower adjacent. Further steep stairs to the second floor open out into a second attractive bedroom with a sloping ceiling and twin beds.

All village amenities are approximately 200 metres downhill including a choice of individual shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants. Known as Little Switzerland, Lynmouth and its twin village of Lynton are connected by a steep road, a winding exhilarating walkway or the famous water-powered cliff railway – an experience not to be missed. The picturesque harbour, manor green and rock and shingle beach of Lynmouth are great places to relax and enjoy the wonderful sea, river and coastal views. Nature lovers and walkers will delight in the deeply cut wooded valleys and open moorland of the surrounding countryside. For those who wish to venture further, fishing trips are available from the harbour and there are many famous beauty spots just a short drive away whilst the golden sand surfing beaches of Woolacombe, Saunton and Croyde are within 25 miles.

A suitable place for our small family to stay and explore Lynton and Lynmouth. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking equipment and facilities. The window seat was the perfect spot to enjoy the views of the river, I sat there often reading my book. Both bedrooms are decent spaces, and the main bedroom has plenty of storage. We were able to putRead more our travel cot in the twin room easily enough. We didn't realise that the cottage is set out over 3 floors and that the stair gate is at the top of the second staircase. Or that there isn't a washing machine. We missed this information on the listing, so it's our fault but we were able to work around this easily. We were able to purchase a parking permit for nearby car parks at the Lynmouth information centre at a reasonable price for the week. If you are visiting with young children, we were able to visit a few places with a pushchair but be aware there were some steep moments / rockier terrain - Heddon Valley/Mouth, walk from Lynmouth to Watersmeet Tea Room, the coastal path from Lynton to the Valley of Rocks (be mindful of the cliff edge). This is not a great place to stay due to multiple issues such as a stained mattress, lack of oven gloves, bedding not smelling fresh, broken fixtures etc.

Fox Cottage is a lovely cottage. Ideally situated for exploring Lynmouth, Watersmeet, Woolacombe etc. The cottage was clean, warm and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay and intend to return in the future.

A very good location. Lynmouth is a wonderful place to stay. Parking was easy: just across the road really and it's possible to get a weekly ticket. The cottage was very comfortable, clean and had everything needed for a relaxing stay.
