Enjoying a secluded location at the heart of Dartmoor, this beautiful cottage makes a fabulous holiday retreat for families and friends discovering a tranquil part of Devon. Offering ample accommodation for up to six guests, the property sits in the glorious wild Tavy Valley and has wonderful views across the moor, making it a great base for horse riding, hiking, biking, wild swimming and stargazing into the dark skies. One of the few cottages on the moor itself, with wild ponies wandering up to the garden gate, this historic getaway retains many original features including timber beams, slate flooring, an antique dresser, an AGA-style oven and a lovely welcoming wood burner.

Entering the cottage, the picturesque open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner has a traditional beamed ceiling and provides a cosy, relaxing space for everyone to get together and unwind. The pretty lounge has a Smart TV, DVD player and Bluetooth speaker, while the central dining table is surrounded by the stylishly arranged kitchen. The ground floor also offers a useful shower room and the first of the cottage’s three rustic-themed bedrooms: a sweet twin room, with the two remaining bedrooms upstairs: a cheerful twin and a lovely king-size with an en-suite shower room. Stepping outside, the delightful front garden features a handy picnic table, and makes a great space for sitting back and relaxing on a sunny afternoon.

This tranquil cottage sits along the beautiful Tavy Valley, with views towards half a dozen dramatic granite-crowned tors including Tavy Cleave, a spectacular spot for wild swimming. Nearby are the cheerful village of Mary Tavy (2 miles) and the Cholwell Riding Stables (3.5 miles) as well as the thriving market town of Tavistock (5.5 miles). Cottage warm and clean, being on Dartmoor it was quiet, the facilities were more than adequate. WI-FI and TV worked well. The two of us had a very enjoyable stay.

Apart from the fact that we bumped our heads several times on some low doorposts and the beam above the stairwell, plus the fact that the bed in the master bedroom was experienced as a bit hard and short, we thoroughly enjoyed this fully equipped house in such a beautiful location on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. We went out daily to exploreRead more this beautiful area with its many bronze age artefacts, medieval ruins, castles, churches, gardens and not to mention the amazing views over Dartmoor and the surrounding countryside. We were also very happy with the 2 garden chairs, to sit outside comfortably, relax and enjoy the beautiful view towards the Moors. All in all we had a wonderful holiday with Zoar cottage as a great base. Hide

Great cottage, very well equipped and cosy. The location was very good with views over the moors from the garden. The lounge would be a bit small for 6 adults but there was plenty of space around the table. The upstairs shower was one of the best we have had in a holiday cottage. There was some good walks from the door as well as a short drive awaRead morey. The pub down the road has now closed but the pubs in Mary. Tavy and Peter Tavy were not too far away. The only negative was the double bed which had a slightly rickety metal frame and very hard mattress. Overall had a great holiday Hide

Everything about the cottage was great. The only negative was the check in/out times of 4pm and 10am, much later earlier than normal.

A cosy cottage on the moor with local village shop. Very pleasant nearby town and lovely pubs and restaurants. The cottage is very comfortable and has a well equipped kitchen and good household equipment. Poor telephone reception and TV reception not always good. A lovely place to stay. Wonderful walks.

This cottage is ideally situated as it feels quiet and relaxed but is in a great location to explore Dartmoor and has easy access to both the A30 & A38 so longer explorations are possible. There are vey good local amenities in Tavistock and there are also some very good pubs locally that do good food.

We stayed here in December for a family funeral. The cottage was ideal for us to spend time together as a family in lovely surroundings. The kitchen in particular is an outstanding feature of this house, it is so well equipped and very cozy during a very cold weekend. The frost made the moor look lovely but we were glad it didn't actually snow. - TRead morehe Mitchell Family Hide
