Dog-friendly all year, it’s not massive, but great for chasing a stick or ball in and out of the sea. Goodrington North Sands is a similarly good choice with a dog in tow, while Paignton Beach has seasonal dog restrictions. All within 0.5 miles. If you want something livelier, head to Paignton South Beach for old-school seaside entertainment with its amusement park and historic pier. In terms of day trips, Brixham (5.5 miles) is renowned for its fresh fish, harbour and picture-postcard good looks.
