  • A short drive to Lyme Regis and the Jurassic coastline to explore the nearby beaches, perfect for all ages
Property code: OC-P27362

Nestled in the pretty village of Dalwood, within the picture-postcard Blackdown Hills AONB, this traditional thatched retreat offers guests beautiful countryside surroundings, allowing you to enjoy the crackle of twigs beneath your feet on the charming walking trails, and return to the perfect bolthole in front of the warming fire. If stretches of sand and turquoise waters are also on the agenda, there are 4 beaches to choose from just 9 miles away in the popular seaside resort of Lyme Regis, so whether you’re a rock pool explorer, a sandcastle architect or just looking to relax on golden sands, you will be well looked after. The town is also home to many local shops, cafes and fine eateries to suit all tastes. The seaside town of Seaton (8 miles) provides a popular day out with its vintage tramway which takes visitors on an enjoyable three-mile ride through the Axe Valley and conveniently located to the Hugh Fernley-Whittingstal’s River Cottage and the National Trust Shute Barton.

Stepping into this beautiful country home you will not be disappointed. A stunning blend of original and contemporary features throughout combine to provide that ideal cosy cottage feel, whilst still having all those creature comforts we all love. The entrance brings you into the dining room where you get your first taste of the exposed beams which scale throughout the home, this space contains an oak dining table with plenty of seating for all to sit together, whilst there is also a wood burner to keep you warm on those chillier nights. Heading upwards will take you through into the spacious, contemporary kitchen where you will find all the appliances you need for a stress-free stay, along with a centre island and breakfast bar, ideal for relaxing with a morning brew and planning the day’s adventures ahead. The semi-conservatory style glass ceiling really brings phenomenal light to this space. Heading back down through the cottage will bring you to the first of the two lounge spaces. This room holds a further wood burner and two comfortable sofas from which to sit back, relax and watch your favourite films on the Smart TV. Moving down further through the home is where you will then find the further snug room, this space is ideal for those looking to perhaps seek their competitive edge on the games console, or even to relax and read a good book perhaps. Finally completing the downstairs is the family shower room, with shower and WC. You can head upstairs in traditional Devon Longhouse style, by your choice of separate two stairways either from the snug room or dining space. The upstairs provides three stylish bedrooms, providing a king-size bed, double, and the other offering a twin. Completing the interior is the upstairs family bathroom.

Heading outside the home guests are spoilt with a large lawn space, ideal for children to roam freely with peace of mind, along with a summer house and adjoined decking.

We had a lovely week in Palmers Cottage, our son daughter in law & two small grandsons, came for 2 nights over new year, we had a lovely time together. Dalwood is a lovely village, with a great pub within walking distance. Despite the rain & wind the cottage is warm & cosy, with everything we needed for a relaxing week in Devon.

Enjoyed a week in this beautiful cottage for Christmas, set in an idyllic location felt like going back in time. The cottage is very well presented and we would definitely return.

Just spent a restful and enjoyable week at Palmers Cottage. The cottage was spotless and very well equipped. It is one of the nicest cottages we've stayed in. Weather could have been kinder, but the sun shone sometimes and we visited Lyme Regis, Sidmouth and Seaton, which were very nice. We really enjoyed our stay. Palmers cottage is a lovely well equipped cottage in a picturesque village. Definitely would recommend the local pub, good food and enormous portions. Also Mikes tour and tasting at Dalwood vineyard. Plenty of places and beaches to visit. The owner was very helpful.

Pleased with the overall experience. Photos on site are taken wide angle so make property seem larger but this takes nothing away from our stay. What a fantastic place Palmers Cottage has proven to be! We stayed here for one week as a family. For me an opportunity to visit Exeter, where I studied in 2000 but has no money on me to explore the surroundings. We truly think that Palmers Cottage is a hidden gem and hope to revisit one day soon.

Fantastic cottage in an area of outstanding natural beauty, meeting all our expectations. The house is very well laid out, has lots of character and has mant options for trips and things to do in the direct surroundings. Five start holiday location!

A fantastic holiday. Lovely cottage in a pretty village. Spent a lot of time at the seaside beaches as the weather has been so good. My grandchildren loved playing at the river and of course using the tree swing. As a family we have had a lovely time in East Devon. Thank you.
