Tucked away on a bustling Victorian harbour with serene riverside walks and peaceful boat trips aplenty from the doorstep, this former fisherman’s cottage, dating back to the 18th century, is the perfect base for couples and families to dive into the incredible natural beauty, water sports opportunities and scenic walks of the North Devon coastline.
After a day’s adventure, gather up your local produce and head into the kitchen/diner to rustle up a hearty feast to feed the crowd seated around the farmhouse-style dining table and make special family memories with the rustic exposed oak beams as your backdrop. As the evening draws in, head upstairs into the contemporary lounge to hunker down on the plush sofa and enjoy the ultimate film night in front of the Smart TV. When bedtime calls, climb to the second floor to find two lovingly furnished bedrooms which feature wonderful views across the harbour that’ll leave you dreaming of tomorrow’s adventure. Mizpah is a traditional fisherman’s cottage, and as such has narrow cottage stairs, making it unsuitable for the elderly or infirm. The cottage is set into the cliffs, and so has no rear garden but rather offers a small outside seating area to the front. Listen to the distant sounds of the bustling harbour as you unwind seated around the patio table in the small outside space.
Ilfracombe offers everything you’d expect to find in a traditional Victorian seaside resort; a historic working harbour (less than half a mile away) with Damien Hirst’s statue Verity standing guard at the entrance, plenty of ice cream parlours and windswept walks with dramatic cliff-top scenery along the South West Coast Path. Jump aboard a boat trip from the harbour to spot sea life aplenty or pack a picnic for a day trip to Lundy Island on a steamer to explore the unique island renowned for its puffins. Discover dramatic moorland and woodland walks through Exmoor (9 miles) or ride the water-powered cliff railway from the pretty town of Lynton (19.5 miles) down to neighbouring Lynmouth.
Parking is sometimes available on the street, or in the conveniently located public car park just steps from the cottage, Ropery car park.
