Escape to beautiful Brixham for a tranquil, coastal getaway. Take in the sights of the picturesque harbour and sample the freshly caught catch of the day with a stay at this beautifully renovated period house which comfortably accommodates four guests and is perfect for couples or families. Sitting conveniently on harbour side, the cottage is close to the town’s array of shops, pubs and restaurants. Head to the beach, the seawater lido, or stretch your legs along the coastal path – perhaps spotting dolphins from Berry Head, 1.5 miles. Take a boat trip to Torquay or Paignton, cruise over to Dartmouth or spend the day at sea, fishing or diving. Also worth a visit is the National Trust’s Greenway, the chosen holiday retreat of Agatha Christie, 4.5 miles.
Take three steps up to the front door and enter this 18th-century listed terraced cottage, which is set over four storeys. The kitchen and dining room are on the ground floor separated by quirky glass room dividers. The dining room features a bay window, a huge original fireplace, and the original wooden floor. The kitchen area, with slate flooring, a ceramic sink, and a central island, is cleverly designed to make preparing holiday meals a breeze. On this level, there’s a family shower room which also houses a WC and washing machine. Heading up to the first floor, you’ll find the inviting lounge, offering mesmerising views from its window seat. A Smart TV means you can stream your favourite shows whenever you want, and there’s a wood-burner-effect electric fire for warmth and a cheerful glow in cooler months. With art on the walls and books and games on the shelves, this really is a welcoming space for all to relax. Across the hall is the smart family bathroom. The king-size bedroom is on the second floor, with more gorgeous harbour views from the window seat. This superb room has yet more original features, complemented by a lovely cast-iron bed. Finally, take the cottage-style stairs to the top floor and the twin room, which features sloping ceilings, an exposed stone wall, and more stunning harbour views.
At the back of the house, a small, enclosed area with decking and bistro seating makes the perfect spot for a morning coffee or an evening tipple. In addition to the ground level outside area there are steep stone steps up to a roof level terrace with a table and chairs. This terrace has views over the rooftops out to sea. Guests are provided with a parking space 250 meters away.
