Once a fisherman's cottage, this charming abode nestles by the estuary in the pretty fishing village of Appledore. Beaches at Westward Ho! and Northam (2 miles) and the bustling town of Bideford (4 miles) are within easy reach. The narrow, winding streets of Appledore abound with curiosities and charisma. Browse the independent shops, galleries, pubs and eateries, and visit the brilliant North Devon Maritime Museum. Savour sublime local seafood and imbibe the salty wonders of estuarine living at its best.

The house's interior has a joyful Mediterranean feel, with azure tones and nautical treasures, tiled tables and easy, breezy décor, fabrics and furnishings. The three ground-floor bedrooms and shower room exemplify simple seaside chic, with a pared back, elegant brio that's a breath of fresh air. Down an open-tread staircase with low head clearance, the lounge/diner is a delight, with its woodburner, mid-century accents, comfy corner sofa and wide picture window onto the estuary and Instow. The kitchen is sleek, streamlined and yet wonderfully quirky, with its old painted beams and rustic tiling. The rear, 6m terrace is stunning, with views that are hard to match for many miles around. Take care with children and dogs near the waist-high sea wall.

Further abroad, there's a feast of fun and adventure. Just across the estuary, (a 20-mile drive away by car), is the marvellous Braunton Burrows, a vital haven for dune wildlife. Clovelly (14 miles) is a unique and protected fishing village, alive with echoes of an idyllic past – the walk there from Bucks Mills (5 miles) is exquisite. Hartland Point (19 miles) and Peninsular are rugged wonderlands, with a dramatic clifftop lighthouse and spectacular views. The beaches at Croyde (22 miles) and Bude (28 miles) are bliss.

Our second visit, love the location of Pedros and view out to the estuary. Lots of boating and wildlife activity. Fluffy white towels and dog treats appreciated too!

Great location. This cottage is all about location. Watching the water flow by, admiring the boats, look at the lights of Instow.

We enjoyed our stay in Pedro, the cottage is in the perfect location, slightly away from the centre of Appledore, but right on the waters edge. Our family enjoyed crabbing and fishing from the garden wall. The cottage is in need of some modernisation, but saying that it is excellent value for money. The beds were comfy, and it had a rainfall showerRead more in the modern bathroom. The washing machine and tumble drier were an added bonus! Hide

Excellent cottage with a stunning view of the river and nature. The birds were amazing to watch and the fish coming in with the tide for feeding were intriguing to watch. This is a superb location to watch the world go by and re charge your batteries.

A very nicely located waterside cottage eright next to the estuary. There's lovely views and it's an easy level walk to the village centre. It's an old building with charm, but be careful if you are tall as there are some low beams.

The location of Pedro is simply stunning and much enjoyment can be had sitting watching the bird life, the coming and going of the tides and the sailing boats and dinghies. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped. I would highly recommend the cottage for its semi-rural location, but quick access to the local shops and restaurants.

A perfect gem! Much larger than first appears. Exceptionally well equipped and logically laid out. Very cosy and relaxing in a lovely location with astounding estuary views across to Instow from the lounge, and even better from the secure garden. Easy access to all of the treats North Devon had to offer. Highly recommended.
