Property code: OC-BX020

Nestled in a traffic-free zone in the harbour town of Brixham, this three-storey cobb cottage offers a quiet retreat to the coast for holidaymakers that seek the convenience of plenty of attractions, shops and restaurants. Thoughtfully styled with beautiful period features, this property has lots of character, including steep cottage-style stairs and quirky furniture, that makes staying here a dream. Wake up to the smell of tea and toast, and head down to the breakfast bar in the stunning kitchen/diner that was hand-built from reclaimed wood.

Whether you’re curled up in front of the wood burner or enjoying the superb views from the balconette in the second-floor double bedroom, you’ll feel comfortable and relaxed here in this 300-year-old cottage, which is accessed via a set of steep steps. The interiors are light and bright with exposed beams and rustic features dotted throughout, ensuring that the property doesn’t lose touch with its traditional roots. However, there is underfloor heating throughout the open-plan living space which adds a contemporary air to things. The lounge area is full of antique furniture; pieces that are unique in their style and in keeping with the age and personality of this beautiful cottage. Head up the steep cottage-style stairs and find that the bedroom is decorated in a classy farmhouse-chic style. After a restful night’s sleep, head back down to the fully equipped kitchen and turn on the coffee machine. If the weather is nice, make use of the enclosed seating area and enjoy an al fresco breakfast as the morning sun makes its way across the sky.

Walk just over 100 metres to the harbour to take a wildlife cruise around some of Torbay’s spectacular coastline, where you may spot seals, herons or even a pod of dolphins. If you’d rather admire the sea from the beach, quiet St. Mary’s Bay is 2 miles from the centre, or Breakwater (just over 0.5 miles) is popular with scuba divers. Find out about Brixham’s rich history at the Brixham Heritage Museum (650 metres) or climb aboard the replica of the Golden Hind (90 metres) and get stuck into its hands-on exhibits.

A lot of steps to climb so you need to be fit. Also you may struggle with parking in high season. Anyone with breathing problems will struggle with this property. We did have a nice holiday in spite of any issues.

A lovely location to explore Brixham. The cottage is very cosy and comfortable. It has everything we wanted for a couple of nights to celebrate a birthday and the New Year. It is good value, clean, well-presented and full of charm. We really enjoyed our stay.

Great little fisherman's cottage which could not be more central. The Burton Inn pub is fab with cheap food and a friendly welcome. Also the Queens Arms is a top pub. We use the bus service to get around which was great as no. 12 bus goes every ten minutes or so. Hopefully we will be back..

We had a lovely stay at Giffin Cottage thank you, and would recommend it. The property was clean and is nicely decorated and there is a lovely harbour view from the main bedroom. Location is v. central but does involve a flight of steps up from the quayside but was manageable. Parking in Brixham is not easy - the owner's tip to unload outside the sRead morehops at the quayside was helpful. The best option for longer term is Oxen Cove carpark which is 5 mins walk along the tow path. Hide
