This delightful and quintessentially cosy property is a former coastguard's cottage located in the small hamlet of Stoke between Hartland Quay and Hartland village and will immediately make you feel at home. Its wonderful location and homely interiors make this the perfect place to base yourself if you want to explore the delights of Devon, and you’re less than 8 miles from the Cornish border should you wish to venture that way.
Very comfortable throughout, the living room benefits from a wood burner set in an attractive stone fireplace, surrounded by two terracotta sofas. There is a separate dining room with a feature fireplace and a stylish and well-equipped kitchen. You can enjoy the countryside views to the sea beyond from the half landing leading to three attractive bedrooms and bathroom on the first floor. Very large mature gardens extend some two hundred feet, with several sloping lawned areas with shrubs and small covered pond. A paved patio sits adjacent to the house to enjoy al fresco meals or simply relax on warm summer evenings.
The scenery along this coastline is truly dramatic and there are some beautiful spots nearby to visit. Hartland Abbey, a elegant 18th-century mansion with gardens leading to the sea is under a mile away, otherwise you could head to the pretty village of Clovelly with its cobbled streets and lovely harbour - an ancient village perched on a cliff with no vehicle access. There are plenty of spectacular walks all around the cottage that take you to tiny coves and harbours, once the haunt of smugglers, and the beautiful sight of Speke’s Mill Mouth Waterfall is just 2 miles away. If you want a bit of retail therapy, the market town of Bideford or the coastal town of Bude are both 16 miles distant in opposite directions.
