This charming cottage enjoys a wonderfully secluded spot just outside George Nympton, a peaceful village with a friendly pub. The setting is lovely: it’s located on an organic farm in the heart of the Mole Valley, overlooking the River Mole and surrounded by rolling North Devon countryside. With one double bedroom, it’s a fantastic choice for solo travellers or couples looking to slow down and enjoy a little peace and quiet. Despite the peaceful location, you won’t be far from civilisation – the market town of South Molton (4 miles) has independent shops and cafés, plus a historic market every Thursday and Saturday.
You’ll reach this 300-year-old property via a driveway three-quarters of a mile long. The characterful cottage has plenty of original features, with exposed stonework, rustic shelving and 2ft-thick stone walls. Inside, the open-plan living area creates a cosy and welcoming space to unwind after a day exploring. There’s a sofa, a dining space and a well-equipped kitchen in one corner, containing everything you’ll need for self-catering. When it’s time to retire, you’ll have a sweet double bedroom along with a separate shower room. Outside, the cottage really comes into its own, with front and rear seating areas equipped with outdoor furniture, a firepit and BBQ, all with gorgeous views. The steep terraced garden is filled with colour and fragrance throughout the year, with native bluebells, orchids, rambling roses, honeysuckle and apple trees. A short walk from the cottage is your private wood-fired hot tub, beautifully positioned beneath a willow tree and overlooking a large natural pond – you may spot kingfishers, dragonflies and damselflies as you soak. Hydrotherapy jets, lighting and outdoor seating make it an idyllic place to relax at any time of day. You’ll also have access to outdoor gym equipment with valley views and private parking for two cars.
There’s plenty to discover in the surrounding area, whether you fancy scenic walks straight from the nearby lanes or longer adventures in Exmoor National Park, around 10 miles away, where dramatic moorland, wooded valleys and winding walking trails await. The beautiful North Devon coastline is also within easy reach, with the golden sands of Saunton Sands approximately 18 miles away for classic beach days, surfing and coastal walks. Closer to home, South Molton is perfect for leisurely afternoons browsing independent shops, stopping for coffee and picking up local produce at the lively pannier market.
