This delightful rural cottage, packed with original period features, is perfect for a small family or two couples sharing. Sleeping four guests, it is set on a working farm in rolling countryside, just 4 miles from the cathedral city of Exeter. The moors and rivers of the magnificent Dartmoor National Park are within 9 miles, while sandy beaches at Exmouth and Dawlish Warren are 14 miles away.

The cottage is beautifully furnished in country style against a backdrop of beams, whitewashed stone walls and vaulted ceilings on the first floor. Relax in the light and spacious, open-plan living area, where comfortable sofas sit before the wood burner, housed in an impressive stone chimney breast. At the far end of the room are a dining area and a streamlined kitchen. A finely crafted wooden spiral staircase leads to the first floor and two charming bedrooms: a king-size and a twin. There is also a family bathroom and a cosy, hideaway nook with bean bags on the landing. Outside, a shared courtyard to the front has garden furniture and a BBQ.

Dartmoor has a wealth of footpaths across a wild landscape encompassing open moorland, river valleys, clapper bridges and ancient stones. The picturesque small town of Chagford (13.5 miles), has excellent independent shops, galleries and eating places, with walks to the beautiful River Teign flowing nearby. Splendid Castle Drogo (11 miles), owned by the National Trust, is set in wonderful gardens, with a path leading to the famous Teign Gorge. Exeter’s many attractions include the historic cathedral, an outstanding city museum and art gallery, and tours of medieval underground passages. Very lovely cottage - up there with the best Ive stayed at in terms of styling, equipment and comfort. Kitchen is excellent and has everything you might want. Owners came and said hello and left us a welcome pack including a bottle of wine which was nice. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and not far from Exmouth and lovely Dawlish - the locationRead more suited us but there is no pub or restaurant you can walk to. We had a lovely stay and would definitely return. Hide

Lovely property, cared for to a really high standard. Owner was absolutely brilliant, so accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. Would absolutely look to stay again if we're in the area.

Excellent host, made us feel very welcome. Lots of good short walks directly from the door, excellent pubs offering good value meals within 15 mins drive. Great place to just get away from it all.

!SELECTED!A!ENDOFSELECTED! very nice location , tucked away from traffic and too many people ! It was a delight - a converted barn with all you could want in terms of equipment and comfort. It was a pleasure to meet William and share some thoughts and wine ! Thoroughly recommend it for location and comfort. AVM

Lovely, well equipped cottage in a very quiet location, and yet convenient for exploring south Devon and Dartmoor. We would have loved a small garden to sit in during the evenings as we visited in the middle of summer. There was access to an outdoor table and chairs in the courtyard area, but not quite the same as a garden. Any other time of year, Read moreand for many guests, this would not be a issue. This would not deter us from coming back again, as the property was excellent. Hide

If youre looking for some silence, peace and quiet, this is where you will find it! The cottage is very private, the owners close by but other than that and lovely chapel, theres pure nature around but close enough to lovely town of Exeter. South coastline 40min drive. I highly recommend trip by steam railway to Dartmouth from Paignton. The accommoRead moredation was spotlessly clean. Amenities new and modern but with old school character. The owner responds immediately and is very helpful. Top choice! Hide

The barn was beautifully renovated to a high specification. We found the location very peaceful but not too far from places of interest and areas for walks. The owners were very kind and welcoming but not intrusive. We highly recommend the property and would love to return in the future.

The Linhay was in the ideal location for us, for walking on Dartmoor, visit to Exeter, nearby castles and the seaside at Dawlish. The cottage was comfortable and cosy and we had everything we needed. The price was also very good value. Would highly recommend.

Really interesting place to stay. Well equipped . Pretty comfortable. The only issue we had was having to be careful on the spiral staircase, but that might be related to our age. Very quiet location but only a short drive to Exeter, which has more to offer than just the cathedral. And not too far from Dartmoor. I would definitely book again if I cRead moreome back to Devon.
