As picturesque as they come, you’ll fall in love with this picture-postcard stable conversion, boasting calming contemporary interiors, nestled on the edge of the walking country of Exmoor National Park. It’s a romantic bolthole that’s perfect for a countryside retreat.

After a long day exploring the surrounding footpaths and walking trails, head through the barn-style front door to be welcomed into the contemporary and stylish open-plan kitchen/living/dining room. Beautiful décor, a comfy sofa and a roaring electric fire will keep you cosy and toasty long into the evening. The kitchen is kitted out with everything you need to whip up a meal with all the fabulous local produce you’ve collected and dine around the wooden dining table. The en-suite bedroom is flooded with natural sunlight from the large picture window and features the same light and bright décor as the rest of the property. Head back through the barn-style door to dine alfresco in the immaculate courtyard, featuring a covered veranda area perfect for enjoying the stunning surrounding countryside views whatever the weather.

Locally known as the gateway to Exmoor, South Molton comprises a quaint market square enveloped by some historic architecture and several independent shops and boutiques with fronts that remain practically untouched by time. Sample some of the area’s acclaimed local produce at the market in the main square held twice a week, which remains as authentically traditional as the rest of the town. The bustling market town of Barnstaple, 11 miles away, offers a more contemporary high street, plus access to the Tarka Trail, a magnificent walking and cycling trail occupying the old railway line; join the trail to journey alongside the estuary to reach Instow (19.5 miles), a fantastic sandy stretch backed by impressive dunes with a local deli.

Cottage was comfy and well equipped. Currently building works going on which can start about 8am., luckily we are early risers. It's about a mile to village and slightly uphill just a note for those with walking issues. Note that some pubs in the surrounding areas don't do food till Wednesday. Cottage very cosy but lovely and clean, very warm. Owners were on hand if you needed anything and a bit too close for our liking. Location is great, easy walk into town where there are nice pubs, good food and interesting shops, plus pannier market twice weekly. Downside, house being built behind.
