This cosy bolthole offers homely one-storey accommodation in a stone property, for that quintessential Devonshire experience. It’s in a pretty, rural spot 2.5 miles from Chulmleigh, a hilltop market town dating back to Saxon England. With a gorgeous king size room and a bunk room, it’d suit a couple or a small family – and one dog is welcome to come along, too.

Enter this picturesque building straight into the welcoming open-plan living area which has a vaulted ceiling, gorgeous wooden ceiling beams and a wood burner. Tasteful cottage-style features add to the charm and there’s a corner sofa for lounging, plus a dining table and chairs where you can tuck into holiday meals. In the cosy bedroom, you can relax with some TV after an action-filled day. This room leads to the bunk room, which has a door out to an enclosed garden – perfect for having a BBQ and absorbing some Devon sunshine on the lawn. When you’re not splashing around in the shared pool (mid May-Sept) you can explore the 80 acres of working farmland surrounding the accommodation.

This part of Devon is known for its ancient woodland, species-rich grasslands and also the Little Dart River, a tributary of the larger River Taw. To discover the area’s unspoilt countryside, head to Eggesford (7.5 miles) and join the Tarka Trail which is ideal for cycling and walking. You’ll want to spend an afternoon in Chulmleigh, exploring its scenic winding streets and perhaps popping into some local shops and art galleries before going for a drink in one of its pretty pubs. Exmoor National Park starts just 12.5-miles north, where you can discover the beautiful landscape of moorland, woodland, coast and rivers on foot or by car.

We were very pleased with our choice of accommodation, great central location in Devon. The cottage was very clean and well presented, comfortable and well equipped. Very nice shower and a good sized private garden for our dog to have a run about. The grounds around the cottage are lovely, very well looked afte. Although we didnt use the pool it diRead mored look very inviting, ideal for a young family with small children as the cottage had bunkers, and also a games room on site. Would definitely recommend this place to others. Hide

Charming small family cottage in a quiet rural setting. Views across farming countryside that probably hasn't changed in centuries. You can count stars on a cloudless night, and listen to birdsong in the morning with your coffee, this is a true "get away from it all" destination.

A great place to stay. Everything you need in a holiday cottage. It is SC so just make sure you take essentials for the cupboard. We have now stayed in The Mowhay twice and would definitely stay again. Don't forget your swimming costume, The Pool is a great bonus

The cottage is in quiet location with just the sound of the birds and local animals. Cottage warm and cosy, settee ideal for watching the large screen tv. Bed very comfortable. Kitchen well equipped with microwave, oven, hob, toaster, coffee maker and kettle. Ideal location for walks or lazy holiday but main A377 nearby enabled access to House of MRead morearbles, and 2 heritage railways. All major supermarkets in reach and local shops in Chulmleigh ok. Road to farm has pot holes but ok with care. Hide

Very nice place to stay. Well equipped and very homely. Lovely King Size bed. Be careful on the long drive as a couple of pot holes. Could not fault anything.
