Property code: OC-88349

A beautiful stone cottage enveloped by shrubbery and rolling country views in the picturesque Dartmoor National Park, this rural hideaway is the perfect family escape with a couple of furry-pawed members in tow. Set off on a scenic amble through the moorlands to discover the history-stepped hillfort of White Tor, before stretching out with an aperitif in the ambient heat of your crackling wood burner.

This stylish country property is brimming with character and features wooden beams, arched ceilings, and earthy stone and leather textures. Step into the hallway and kick off muddy boots then potter through to the generously sized shaker-style kitchen flooded with natural light. The resident chef can pour a glass and then busy themselves prepping an indulgent meal while the rest of the gang unwinds with a pre-dinner drink in front of the flickering fire in the cosy lounge/diner. Pad up the steps to the dining table, toast with a glass of fizz, and settle in for a celebratory feast with the family. Retire upstairs to the wonderful lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing superb views across the garden. As the night draws in, sink onto the sofas, and fire up the Smart TV. Rest up in the peaceful sleeping areas, consisting of a ground-floor king-size as well as a first-floor twin and a king-size. Catch some morning rays and drink in the sweeping views from the lush, enclosed garden.

Dartmoor is the perfect destination for a relaxing retreat. Venture to the pretty town of Tavistock, 3 miles, and browse the craft stalls at the local farmers market or visit the 15th-century stables of Countryman Cider, 11 miles, to sample locally produced mead. Enjoy a memorable day out with the little ones and learn of the fascinating underwater world at the National Marine Aquarium, 14 miles.

Great cottage, lots of well-furnished rooms and a sunny garden. The Peter Tavy Inn, just a couple of hundred yards, great food and dog friendly - may need to book as it's popular. A couple of good walks just out from the house. First via Mary Tavy and down the Dartmoor Way, watch out for a couple of high ladder stiles. Second Smeadon down. You can Read morejust walk on the open down with its Tors, Dartmoor ponies sheep and a couple of Shetland's, we think, or a longer circular walk on tracks and paths. Hide

Absolutely perfect facilities. Lots of thoughtful touches. Will definitely return. We would give the highest recommendation possible for Gate House Barn . Not one quibble. For those who want a characterful pub with great food the Peter Tavy Inn is a very short walk away.
