Stay on track when you book this delightful, romantic retreat for two which is set within a former train ticket office. Exquisitely converted, the single-storey, one-bedroom Devon hideaway is perfect for those who love the nostalgia of the railway as it nestles within the station at Eggesford. From here, you can board a train along the Tarka Line or hop on your bikes and follow the traffic-free Tarka Trail through picturesque countryside.

Approach the attractive, stone station and let yourselves into this unique and bijou retreat. The heart of the holiday home is the inviting lounge/diner where you can put your feet up after long walks and chat through your plans for the following day. Fire up the wood burner in here on chilly evenings and snuggle up in front of a good film on the Smart TV. A window from this room looks out over the platform so eager spotters can watch the trains as they come and go. The compact kitchen has been fitted out with everything you might need to help you prepare delicious dinners for two and there is a table next door where you can enjoy them. There is a double bedroom for you to retire to for a good night’s sleep and an en-suite shower room where you can take an invigorating shower before heading off for the day. There is no outside space with the property due to its truly special setting, but guests can stroll off from the doorstep to enjoy the sunshine.

Take a train from the station to Barnstaple, 19 miles away, to browse in the independent shops, buy fresh, local produce in the market and dine out in different restaurants. Make forays into Dartmoor, which begins 13 miles away, and into Exmoor, 18 miles away, from your charming bolthole.

Great to basically park up the car and use trains and walking to get around (except for first shop). Treat trains as (fairly loud) hourly chime clock - the overnight non-running fitted well with my daily habits, and I slept very well.

Quirky and very comfortable. The trains weren't nearly as intrusive as we feared and very convenient for trips to Exeter and Barnstaple. Lovely to had a wood burner - we were there in October so we needed it, although there was a good electric heater as a backup.

Very well furnished and equipped. Very comfortable. But it is a working main line, so can be obtrusive late night and early morning. Owners very nice and caring.

Jacqui lives next door and is on hand for any questions and is extremely helpful. Its a really nice quirky cottage, and handily located for lots of places to visit. You MUST like trains! Which we do.
