Get an authentic taste of country life at this former farm store; surrounded by a verdant landscape, it’s a fabulous base for family or friends wishing to explore the Devon/Dorset border. Famous for its carpet-making legacy, Axminster (2 miles) hosts a bustling weekly market and is home to a vibrant culinary scene, its inns and eateries offering plenty to please every appetite. If coastal adventures are more to your taste, unspoilt seaside village Charmouth (6 miles) is a fossil-hunting favourite and gives access to the South West Coast Path – walk eastwards and Golden Cap is the highest point on this dramatic coastline. Alternatively, head west along the Jurassic Coast and Lyme Regis (5.5 miles) boasts a historic harbour and the iconic Cobb breakwater. Easier footpaths run directly from the farm if you’d prefer to stay local.
Park, unpack and settle into the slower pace of farm life – kick off your shoes in the porch, then step straight into an open-plan social space where traditional styling sets the scene for a comfortable, companionable stay. To the rear, the kitchen has all the must-haves of home; work your culinary magic, then gather at the dining suite to eat and discuss your day. Afterwards, settle into the soft sofa and catch up with your favourite TV programmes; a range of books and board games extend the entertainment options. When it’s time to sleep, two inviting bedrooms are off the hall. Choose between a king-size bedroom with its own Smart TV and en-suite shower room, or a twin bedroom which could claim exclusive use of the family bathroom.
French doors from the lounge area lead directly onto an enclosed deck, which is furnished for al fresco dining and serves up some far-reaching views of the rolling countryside. Expect to hear and see the farm’s resident wildlife – if you’re holidaying with children, they’ll be reluctant to leave. Private parking for two cars is provided.
