Alternatively, head up the Atlantic Highway to explore the charming fishing villages of Instow and Appledore (14 miles) or visit the many shops, cafes and restaurants in the market town of Barnstaple, all within a 4-mile drive. You can also pick up the Tarka Trail from here and walk or cycle for miles. Or, for a bit of a city jaunt, pick up the Tarka Line train from Barnstaple that wends its way through glorious rural scenery to Exeter.
