Property code: OC-HILLSI

This impressive five-bedroom detached home dating back to the 1860s is situated just outside the picturesque and popular village of Croyde yet still within walking distance the beach with its large sandy cove is a magnet for families and surfers alike. With a cosy wood burner and plenty of socialising space both inside and out, all ten guests can enjoy a holiday like no other on the North Devon coast.

The approach to the house from the driveway is up a few steps. An attractive glass and wood vestibule to the side of the house has a beautiful, tiled floor whilst a fabulous wet room is at the rear of the vestibule, ideal for rinsing away the sand under the showers when you have just come back from the beach. The living area benefits from a wood burner set in a part exposed stone and brick alcove with a slate hearth. The dining table offers seating for ten, great for getting together to discuss plans for the next day's activities over an evening meal and a glass of wine. The triple-aspect kitchen space has been thoughtfully designed with granite worktops, contemporary white units and stone tile flooring. French doors open out onto the split-level patio terrace complete with an outdoor table, perfect for al fresco eating. A series of terrace lawns landscape the hill (so take care with young children on the slopes). A separate, smaller second living room/snug with a two-seater sofa offers a quiet retreat for reading should you wish. One of the superb bedrooms (a super-king-size zip-and-link) is located downstairs across the hall from the snug. Upstairs, there are a further four bedrooms all with beautiful wooden flooring: two en-suite king-size rooms, a zip-and-link twin (can be super-king-size upon request) and a single with an additional single pull-out bed. A high-quality bathroom with a free-standing slipper bath and a separate large shower serves the other bedrooms.

There is now an EV charger located in the right side garage which requires a Type 2 cable

A local character pub serving meals is half a mile down the road with a further choice of pubs, cafes and restaurants just beyond in the centre of the village itself. You’ll be excellently located to take advantage of the other beaches in the North Devon World Surfing Reserve with Saunton (5.5 miles), Woolacombe (4 miles) and Lynmouth (23.5 miles) all easily reachable. Walk the South West Coast Path to Morte Point (5 miles) for stunning views or head to the larger settlements of Braunton (4 miles) and Barnstaple (11 miles)for shopping and other entertainment.

Hillside was perfect for our annual girls' weekend. Beautifully appointed rooms, masses of space, gorgeous dcor, super comfy beds, great showers, good sized towels, well equipped kitchen, great outdoor space, good sized parking space, efficient under-floor heating. About 0.7 mile into the village, and maybe a mile to the beach...easy walking for ouRead morer party. A few of us walked down for an early swim each morning, and the hot showers were most welcome on our return. Even in mid October, we found plenty of choice for eating & drinking in the town. An absolutely lovely house; perfect for our needs. Hide

Hillside is a lovely property. The owners have seamlessly blended the old and new to create a spacious environment for 8-10 persons, ideal for family gatherings such as our own visit. It is where 'old country vicarage' meets 'designer kitchen'. The bathrooms are all modern, with the wet room very handy for surfers, walkers etc. The living and diRead morening space is well appointed with a large dining table and chairs, with the living room space containing a mixture of sofas and easy chairs. Ours was a winter stay and therefore we did not take advantage of the outdoor spaces but there is adequate patio space for all of your guests with outdoor furniture and BBQ space. NB. as the name implies, the rear of the property is terraced as it is on the side of a hill. The pictures in the advert for this property are very accurate. I would make people aware of the following. Access to the main entrance to the property is via 10 steps, you would still need to climb five steps if you were to take the long route around to the back door. Therefore, this might not be suitable for persons with different abilities. However, if this is not too challenging, then the good news is that one of the double bedrooms is on the ground floor, as is the wet room shower complete with wash hand basin and WC. If visiting in Winter, then the dual air source heat pumps keep the property lovely and warm with a mixture of radiators and underfloor heating. Each room has its own temperature control. We didn't touch these as they we set just right. Plenty of cooking equipment and more than ample numbers of crockery, glasses and silverware, so some can be in the dishwasher and there is still plenty more to use. Not all visitors might be like us, country dwellers. The short walk to the village is along a narrow road, some of this has no street lighting. Would recommend you bring a good torch, spare batteries and also at least one person in your group to wear a Hi-Viz vest. It really does help drivers see you. Can thoroughly recommend the Manor Inn for pub classics and Sunday Carvery or just for drinks and the big football matches if that's your thing. For something a little bit special, try the New Coast Kitchen. Brunch in the mornings and fine dining in the evening. Superb. Hillside was everything we were looking for to accommodate grandparents, parents and teenagers. Hide

Fantastic all round. We as a family felt it was perfect. We did a bit of walking and also visited places around us. The weather was great so spent time on the beach everyday. Thank you
