Set around a tranquil fishing pond, this charming lodge is one of three on the wooded site of a former quarry. Close to the Atlantic coast there are walking opportunities and beaches galore.

Experience peace and tranquillity in bucket loads with a stay in this gorgeous lodge, deep in the heart of the Devon countryside, yet just 11 miles from the seaside resort of Bude. You’ll be surrounded by woodland, which you’re welcome to explore, and the property looks out over a fabulous fishing pond. The lodge sleeps four guests, making it ideal for a small family getaway or couple’s retreat. The open-plan layout is perfect for socialising, and there’s also a delightful veranda where you can unwind with a glass of wine in the evening, admiring the idyllic view.

The warm and inviting lodge is decorated in a contemporary style and has a magnificent vaulted ceiling, creating a sense of space. With an open-plan layout, the property is perfect for entertaining. Prepare delicious meals in the stylish kitchen whilst chatting to your fellow guests on the sofas, before coming together for dinner around the dining table, overlooking the pond. After dinner, unwind in the cosy lounge area, where you can watch a film on the Smart TV whilst warming your toes in front of the wood burner. Outside, sip a morning coffee on the enclosed veranda whilst admiring the vast array of local wildlife.

Grab your buckets and spades and head to Widemouth Bay (14 miles). With nearly 2 miles of golden sand, it’s easy to find your own little spot to set up camp, even in the height of summer. Spend the day building sandcastles, rummaging in rock pools and surfing some of Cornwall’s best waves. For completely different scenery, journey 24 miles to Boscastle. Set deep in a ravine, this natural harbour is quite magical. Wander amongst the white-washed cottages before heading high above the village to explore the surrounding rugged landscape.

Set in a beautiful location we really enjoyed a comfortable stay in Oak lodge. It was so peaceful and we enjoyed watching the kingfisher daily, watching sand martins fly over the lake and hearing the tawny owls at night. A lovely place to stay.

It makes a perfect dog holiday for us. We have been going there over 15 years, not every year. We have also recommended the place to our fishing friends. Shame we had so much rain but veranda comes into its own whilst drying the dog.
