Peacefully situated in the West Lyn Valley and surrounded by the natural splendour of Exmoor, this spacious country retreat is one of only two cottages close to the owners own home. Located just half a mile from the pretty Hamlet of Barbrook with garage stores and 2 miles to the renowned coastal village of Lynton.  Hawthorn cottage has been carefully converted from an original barn.  The cottage has been furnished and equipped to a high standard and provides a very comfortable holiday base.  Entering through large glazed doors you are welcomed by a spacious open plan living area with high vaulted ceiling. A shower room is also on this level. A further two attractive bedrooms can be found on the lower ground floor, one with an ensuite and the other served by a family bathroom.  Hawthorn cottage has its own patio and enclosed garden, with gas barbecue and private off road parking for at least two cars.  Located on a quiet country lane that leads directly onto open moorland and with easy access to dramatic coastal and riverside walks, this is a haven for walkers and nature lovers. The famous twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth are connected by the unique water powered cliff railway and offer a wonderful selection of individual shops, cafes, restaurants and the picturesque harbour and rock and shingle beach at Lynmouth have stunning views of high cliffs that tumble down to the sea. Plenty of activities are available locally including riding, fishing, tennis courts, bowls and even star gazing as Exmoor is a designated ‘Dark Sky’ area!  For those who wish to venture further afield there are many local attractions including The Doone Valley, Porlock Weir, Watersmeet and the beautiful sandy surfing beaches of the Golden Coast around Woolacombe and Croyde are within 40 minutes’ drive.

Comfortable cottage with direct walking access to the moor. Friendly and helpful owner. A delightful stay.

Ms A,

Our host, Suzanna was lovely. Communicated with us personally a few days before and sent links on places of interest and local restaurants which was really helpful so we could book in advance. On arrival there was a fabulous homemade cake and welcome message. She popped in later to introduce herself and we were able to contact her at anytime if necessary. The cottage was well located for local walks straight from the door including the Lorna Doone moors and the West Lyn river. Brilliant local petrol station, well stocked shop with friendly staff within walking distance. Great place for driving out to lots of places. The cottage, a converted barn on 3 levels, was very clean, simply decorated with style and a homely feel. It was well stocked with everything we needed. Warm and cosy on the rainy days. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay which was very relaxing.

Ms R,

Thank you for an incredibly comfortable stay. The setting and surrounding walks are beautiful. Our family come to Lynton every year and this cottage is by far the best. It was so lovely to be welcomed by a delicious cinnamon cake after our long journey!

Mrs Jennifer H,

Thank you for a lovely stay in Hawthorn Cottage. The house is cosy and comfortable, a brilliant base for North Devon. The beds are super comfortable and the lemon drizzle cake on arrival was the best we've ever tasted!

Ms Sarah V,

We had a wonderful stay in Hawthorn Cottage. The cottage itself and surrounding area are beautiful with amazing walks and activities

Mr Mike B,
