Description

Cockle Cottage is a delightful character fishermans cottage nestling in one of the oldest streets of the picturesque fishing village of Appledore. Surrounded by colour washed cottages and with no vehicular access, this part of the village has great charm with character pubs serving excellent food, art galleries, restaurants, chandlers and interesting shops all within the surrounding narrow lanes. Less than a hundred yards from the waterfront the cottage is furnished in a bright contemporary style whilst retaining the original character of this former fisherman's home. Deceptively spacious and laid out over three floors, sea glimpses are available from the top floor. Ideal for enjoying holidays with family and friends the cottage offers an attractive and cosy beamed lounge with a wood burner in a stone fireplace for comfort in the cooler seasons. A separate dining room with ample space for relaxed dining. There is a good sized double bedroom and bathroom on the first floor and a further two twin bedrooms are on the second floor all reached by low curved staircases (restricted height). For relaxation and alfresco dining the cottage also offers a fully enclosed walled patio with garden furniture. Cockle Cottage is part of Appledore's seafaring history and a trip to the local North Devon Maritime Museum offers an interesting insight into the area's past. The Elizabethan port of Bideford with its many shops, cafes and restaurants is within 10 minutes' drive as is the sandy surfing beach of Westward Ho! A great base for enjoying a seaside break or for exploring the dramatic coastline and spectacular countryside in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Reviews

Property was excellent, handy for the amenities, plenty of places to eat and drink, and beaches were a 5-10 min drive which was ideal.

Mrs Anita A,

Cockle cottage is in a great location in appledore, good size cottage, fans would be a bonus in this cottage as upper floors very warm. Only 2minutes from the front, nice restaurant and couple nice pubs. John's shop and bakery excellent. Great base for exploring.

May M,

Lovely cottage in the heart of Appledore, was ideal for our family of 4 and the bathroom is huge!!! Is close to all amenities in the village....Johns is a great place for all your essentials. We are out every night and would highly recommend The Flame Factory, The Seagate and The Beaver Inn. All great places to eat and the kids loved them too. Catching the Ferry to Instow is also a must and it has a lovely beach there too. All in all we had a really nice time and will definately use Marsdens again.

Mr M B,

Beautiful cottage which is immaculate. Appledore itself is really pretty with lots of quaint shops, cafes & pubs. Johns' has everything you could possibly need. Instow has a lovely beach which the dogs loved. I recommend Instow Inn & Quay Inn. Lynton and Lynmouth is well worth the visit, it's pretty special. Thank you!
