Summercombe is a Grade two listed traditional stone and slate bank barn which for several hundred years has served this Devon farm. It stands nestled into the hillside, yet perched above the sea on open farmland in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty some two miles inland from Watermouth Castle and not far from Berrynarbor and Ilfracombe. It is the sister holiday let of Court Cottage which is in the centre of Berrynarbor village itself.
The picturesque and prize winning village of Berrynarbor has a choice of character inns serving local produce and real ales. Ilfracombe with its pretty fishing harbour surrounded by towering cliffs, provides beautiful coastal scenery for walkers and cyclists as well as boasting a great selection of attractions, including the Victorian Tunnels Beaches, Damien Hirst’s Verity and various eateries including a Michelin star restaurant. The award winning family beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde are a short drive away as are the wilds of Exmoor.
This stunning barn conversion has been recently architecturally designed to create a fabulous living space whilst retaining its traditional features and atmosphere and is also home to a small collection of work by local artists. A double height entrance hall provides a great welcome and an area to place those muddy boots after an exhilarating coastal walk. There is practical slate flooring throughout the downstairs but with the added bonus of underfloor heating. The two bedrooms on the ground level are spacious and both have built in wardrobes, ensuite facilities and windows with wooden shutters. The master bedroom benefits from a super king bed and has three steps leading down to a superb ensuite with roll top bath with sky views, separate shower, vanity unit and WC. Bedroom two has twin zip ‘n’ link beds (that can be converted to a super king bed on request) and an ensuite shower room. Off the hall a fitted cupboard provides a utility area with washing machine and tumble dryer.
From the spacious entrance hall an oak and metal open tread staircase leads up to a glazed mezzanine and into the contemporary open plan living space, this time with a warm oak flooring with underfloor heating. On one side you have the lounge area with roof lights flowing throughout and three comfortable sofas placed for tranquil reading time next to the woodburner on cooler evenings. On the other side, the kitchen area with a large wooded dining table and along one wall a modern range of units with all appliances built in, again flooded with light from the roof lights and looking out over the fields behind.
Outside a raised patio area with garden furniture and barbeque is located to one side of the property and on another side there is a small lawned area. When bringing your pet please ensure it is kept on a lead outside due to livestock in surrounding farmland, however the owners have also provided an enclosed paddock ideal for exercising your pet. You may also wish to stroll through a pretty meadow and pick up the bridle path that will take you on a coastal walk to the village of Hele with its tiny cove which is pet friendly all year round, pubs and spectacular coastal walks.

Bedroom two with zip n link twin beds which can be made into a superking on request and an ensuite shower room with fixed head and hand set vanity unit and WC. First Floor: Open plan lounge, sofas, Smart TV, Bluetooth Soundbar, woodburner with starter supply of kindling and logs. Kitchen/diner with electric oven, induction hob, integrated fridge, separate freezer, dishwasher, coffee machine and microwave.

Patio area with garden furniture and barbeque. Lawned area and use of grounds with stream (care should be taken with small children) Field for exercising your pet. Private parking for 2 cars(more on request). Electric car charging point. Storage for bikes and surfboards. Arr/Dep for weekly bookings is Friday.
Fantastic cottage in a wonderful location if you like to be a little bit off the beaten track, but still within walking distance of the town. It really is the best of both worlds in a beautiful rural location with sea views. We hope to return one day.

Always a pleasure to return to Summercombe again … and again and this time, as well as the usual high standard of property, they threw in 7 days of sunshine. Great week - lovely property and location.
Summercombe was a beautifully appointed cottage. We had a fantastic week exploring the wonderful North Devon coastline. The owners made us feel welcome (and supplied fresh eggs!)
On arrival at Summercombe after a long, difficult year we were not disappointed. The cottage and its facilities were superb and all the little extras made it that extra special. Fantastic setting friendly and helpful owners and the most adorable pet (Teddy) ❤ We have loved staying here - plenty to do. Lots of local walks (very hilly) and amazing hills. The coastal path from Hele Bay to Combe Martin has some glorious views and hiring of kayaks to explore the coastal coved is a must. The beach and sand dunes of Saunton Sands with a spot of lunch at the beachside grill is also recommended. Our last evening was spent on Barricane Beach where the curry is so tasty. It was so relaxing watching the waves, chilling out. Summercombe has been the best holiday cottage we have stayed in and will definitely return. The Gladstones - Yorkshire

Summercombe is a beautifully appointed cottage in a very quiet rural location which benefits from distant sea views. Mortehoe, Woolacombe and Combe Martin are all within 15-20 minutes drive and Ilfracombe is only 10 minutes away. Ally and Steve, who live opposite, are very friendly and helpful hosts - nothing is too much trouble. You can walk across the fields from the cottage to join a bridleway which leads to Hele Mill and the beach. There was nothing not to like!

Summercoombe is a beautiful property in a lovely location. The hosts are on hand to offer any help they can but at the same time, give you complete privacy. Spacious and airy inside, and equipped to a really good standard. Lovely grounds outside with plenty of dog walking opportunities. Hope to return next year.
