Property code: OC-HVFAR1

Gather nearest, dearest and dogs for a deluxe Devon getaway – this historic farmhouse has six beautiful bedrooms, huge social spaces and a host of fun facilities, including an indoor pool, games room, a hot tub, child-friendly gardens and acres of land to explore.

Located within the grounds of an alpaca farm, this impressive property dates in part from pre-Doomsday Book times and retains many period features and furnishings. The accommodation here is spread across three main levels, with a choice of areas where guests can get together or enjoy some quiet time apart. The main entrance opens into the top floor where you will find the primary living spaces as well as two bedrooms – one a king-size with an en-suite shower room, the other with twin beds – and a utility/storage/cloakroom. The spacious dining room has a wood burner for cooler evenings and offers 180-degree country views thanks to two walls of glazed bi-fold doors that can be opened onto a large stone terrace. An oak-beamed kitchen/diner has everything you’ll need for food prep, and also on this level is a traditionally furnished lounge with a wood burner. The middle floor features a long wood-panelled corridor where there’s a well-stocked library, a family bathroom and four bedrooms – a king-size with en-suite shower room and two others, each with twin beds – plus a quiet, dual-aspect reading room. A large loft master bedroom, accessed from the latter, is sanctuary-like with beautiful views, an en-suite with double-ended Jacuzzi bath and separate shower; a spiral staircase gives this room direct to the swimming pool area and hot tub. For everyone else, steps from the reading room connect this area to the lower level where there’s a utility/cloakroom, games room with a billiard table and selection of toys, seating and access to the pool area. The 15m infinity swimming pool has a tiled seating area, shower facilities and French doors to the balcony where there’s a glazed balustrade and hot tub for six – a great place to watch the sun go down. Youngsters can let off steam in the family garden where there’s wooden play equipment, toddler swings and space to run around; a fully-enclosed rough lawned area allows pets to have fun too. Make friends with the alpacas in the adjoining fields or explore the 110 acres of surrounding meadow and woodland – footpaths lead to the Tarka Trailand on towards Ilfracombe, Lee and Mortehoe.

There’s so much here to make every holiday memorable, but the vast sands of Woolacombe are only 4.5 miles away and well worth a visit. For contrast, head 2 miles north to fashionable Ilfracombe which is fast-gaining a reputation as North Devon’s cultural and culinary centre.

Spacious, well equipped, comfortable and well located. The pool is a big advantage for when the weather is poor and the adults loved the hot tub in the evenings. Helpful, friendly hosts and gorgeous alpacas.
