This cottage, which is located on a working farm, is immersed in the countryside of the village of Rattery, just outside of South Brent, Dartington and Totnes. Rattery has a bounty of public footways and beautiful country walks, meaning the property offers guests the best of both worlds, as it’s a short driving distance to visit the busy town of Totnes (4 miles) to get some shopping done, sightsee and visit the local markets.

This semi-detached property has high-quality pieces throughout the property and uses items that provide an interesting tale to the build of the house. The homeowners have used the wood that was originally on the Dartmouth Lower Ferry slipway in the property which they purchased when the slipway was refurbished. Handmade pieces like the stairways, bannisters and furniture have been carefully made by the family and fill the property with love, care and attention to provide the best comfort to guests. On the ground floor, the spacious, dual-aspect living room has a Smart TV, two electrical recliner armchairs, two armchairs with footstools, a four-seater recliner and a piano for guests to use. The kitchen/diner has a large solid wood table with seven chairs and a handmade seating bench, a Smart TV with a games console and a selection of games, and a breakfast bar with two stools. There’s everything needed to whip up delicious meals with plenty use useful appliances as well as a utility room with a washer/dryer and a separate WC. Finishing the floor is an en-suite zip-and-link twin room (which can be a super-king-size upon request). On the first floor, you’ll find the remaining three bedrooms: an en-suite king-size with a TV and balcony, a zip-and-link twin (which can be a super-king-size upon request), and another king-size with a TV and a balcony. There is a family bathroom to serve two of the bedrooms. Outside is an enclosed paved terrace with outside seating and a charcoal BBQ and a large grassed area which is not enclosed and is shared with the house next door.

The village of Rattery houses a village shop (open every Tuesday) to get your little top-up shop and has a fantastic inn (1 mile) where you can book and enjoy either a lunch or evening meal. Totnes has plenty to offer you whilst on holiday. Top attractions include Totnes Castle (4.5 miles) which is managed by English Heritage, and the Grade II-listed gardens at Dartington Trust (3.5 miles). Slightly further afield, Paignton Zoo (9 miles) has over 2,000 animals spread across 80 acres of grounds.

  • 4 bedrooms – 2 king-size, 2 twins
