Lydford, sometimes spelt Linford, is located 7 miles from Tavistock, one of West Devon’s oldest market towns. As well as its close proximity to some of the most popular family-friendly attractions in Mid Devon, it boasts some of its own, including the spectacular 30m waterfall at Lydford Gorge and two sites that make up Lydford Castle. Dartmoor National Park is popular with cyclists, hikers and walkers, who can also explore countless routes closer to the village. Tavistock Abbey (7 miles) is reputed to be the birthplace of the cream tea, while its quaint streets are a shoppers’ and foodies’ paradise, with family-friendly pubs, independent shops and a pannier market waiting to be discovered.
