Set within the beautiful Blackdown Hills, and overlooking the sweeping Otter Valley, this welcoming single-storey cottage is wonderful for couples, families or small groups of friends. It’s been designed with accessibility and comfort in mind, so it’s wheelchair-friendly and features thoughtful additions such as an entrance ramp. Just 1.5 miles from Upottery, it’s perfectly placed for making the most of the peaceful countryside while remaining within easy reach of local towns and attractions.

On arrival, head up the short entrance ramp to a well-planned, single-level interior with underfloor heating throughout. The kitchen is to the right of the entrance and has everything you need for preparing quick breakfasts and relaxed evening meals. Towards the rear, the open-plan living area really shows off the far-reaching views, with glass doors that you can open up on sunny days. Unwind with a book on the comfortable seating, or settle down to watch something on the Smart TV. There’s also a dining table with plenty of space for meals and board games. The two bedrooms are accessed from the hallway: a spacious twin and a cosy double with its own Smart TV. A family wet room completes the interior. Outside, soak up the scenery with a glass of wine on a private enclosed deck, and head out for a stroll in the shared garden. Just 50 metres away, you can also enjoy access to a shared carp lake (you’ll need a fishing licence and barbless hooks). There’s also a peaceful seating area that’s perfect for picnics. You’ll have private parking for two cars.

In the surrounding area, head to Honiton (6 miles), to browse independent shops and pick up fresh local produce. You could visit the Thelma Hulbert Gallery for contemporary exhibitions, or the Allhallows Museum for a fascinating glimpse into the town’s lace-making heritage. Fancy a day by the coast? Head to Seaton (15 miles) or the charming seaside town of Lyme Regis (18.5 miles), where you can also join the scenic South West Coast Path, opening up classic Jurassic Coast views and fossil hunting opportunities.

We have just returned from a wonderful weeks stay at Greenfields View and cannot recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived, Julie made us feel genuinely welcome. After a long journey, the thoughtful welcome pack of homemade cake, biscuits, fresh milk and eggs from the farms own chickens was such a lovely surprise and very much appreRead moreciated. Julie checked in shortly after our arrival to make sure everything was suitable for my sister, who has MS and uses a mobility scooter. When my sister mentioned that she found the toilet a little difficult to use because there were no grab rails, Julie returned within fifteen minutes with a supportive toilet frame. Nothing seemed too much trouble, and her kindness and willingness to help made us feel immediately at home. The cottage itself was immaculate, comfortable and exceptionally well equipped. It had everything we needed for a relaxing holiday, and it was one of the most accessible holiday properties my sister has ever stayed in. She was able to drive her mobility scooter straight into the cottage, charge it overnight, move easily around the living area and out onto the balcony to enjoy the breathtaking views across the Otter Valley. The balcony quickly became our favourite place to sit. Watching the changing light across the valley, the lake, the surrounding wildlife and simply enjoying the peace and quiet was the perfect way to begin and end each day. We also loved meeting the horses and friendly cats around the farm, which added to the charm of our stay. Although the cottage is tucked away down a quiet country lane, we found this to be one of its greatest strengths. The peaceful setting provided a true escape from everyday life, yet we were still able to reach many of East Devons highlights, including Sidmouth, Exmouth, Exeter, Killerton, the Donkey Sanctuary and Darts Farm, within a comfortable drive. We also enjoyed an excellent meal at the nearby Sidmouth Arms, which was accessible for my sister and provided delicious food. Greenfields View provided everything we could have wished for: comfort, tranquillity, beautiful scenery and thoughtful accessibility, all complemented by Julies outstanding hospitality. Thank you for helping to make our family holiday such a special one. We left with wonderful memories and very much hope to return one day. Hide
