Holidays in Princetown

Self-catering holiday homes in Princetown

Discover the beauty of Dartmoor National Park from our holiday cottages in Princetown where you can embrace the tranquillity of countryside living on a couples' escape or family break. As the highest settlement on the moor, rest assured that the views from Princetown are truly spectacular sitting around 427m above sea level. Famed for being home to Dartmoor Prison, which was once believed to have held a number of notorious prisoners, the local museum offers a fantastic insight into some of these characters and what life in the prison was once like, a stark contrast from the friendly, serene culture which the village is now known for. What’s more, the National Park Visitor Centre can be found in Princetown near our self-catering accommodation which was previously a hotel where Sir Arthur Conan Doyle began penning Sherlock Holmes: The Hound of the Baskervilles.

To the north of the village is the captivating Wistman’s Woods where ancient trees intertwine with one another above the moss-covered rocks to create a fairytale-esque scene. Further south, Burrator Reservoir is a wonderful place to go for a walk by the calm waters, surrounded by towering trees. Dartmoor National Park as a whole has a wealth of activity on offer, from hidden wild swimming spots and cycling trails to llama trekking and waterfall watching all found within the 368 sqm patch of terrain. Whilst wild animals such as Dartmoor ponies can be spotted around the park, Dartmoor Zoo can be found 10 miles away with a plethora of exotic animals to meet and greet on an alternative day out.
