Spend happy days exploring the picturesque village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor, which boasts the legendary Church of St Pancras, visit the National Trust's Castle Drogo with its beautiful Hunter's Trail walk with spectacular views, or stop in to the Warren House Inn on Dartmoor (the highest pub in Southern England, said to have had a fire burning continuously since 1845) for some light refreshments. If your day out has been fun-packed and busy and you feel like a break from cooking, you can order meals from the main reception and have them delivered to your lodge or soak up the garden views from the lodge’s decked balcony, before firing up the BBQ to rustle up an al fresco feast for your loved ones.
Step inside and you’ll be welcomed by a stylish open-plan lounge/ kitchen/dining area with magnificent exposed beams and a charming stone-built central fireplace. Make yourself at home in the welcoming lounge area before heading to the country-style kitchen area to whip up some dinner. Gather everyone together at the elegant dining table to eat, or make your way to the impressive decked balcony and fire up the BBQ. Afterwards, head to the lounge area to relax by the flame-effect fire. At the end of the day, climb up to the second floor and you’ll find an opulent king-size bedroom with an en-suite bathroom that includes a separate shower and bath. On the first floor to find two additional bedrooms – both with a zip-and-link super king beds that can be converted to twins on request. One has an en-suite bathroom with separate shower and bath, while the other has double doors that offer access to a decked area, and an en-suite shower room. When you wake up in the morning, head to the shared indoor swimming pool to kick off your day with a refreshing dip, or make the most of the shared on-site spa, tennis court or gym facilities.
Step back in time and discover Grimspound (5 miles) - a remarkably well-preserved Bronze Age settlement. Alternatively, grab your walking boots and hike around the base of Hound Tor (6 miles) while you admire its unique rock formations. Keep an eye out for Dartmoor's famous wild ponies grazing nearby. Further afield the coastal towns of Teignmouth (20miles) and Torquay (24miles) provide beaches and water-sports, and the city of Plymouth with its National Marine Aquarium (a fantastic attraction for adults and children alike) and the historic Barbican area with the Mayflower steps where the Pilgrim Fathers are believed to have left England on board the Mayflower ship in 1620 to cross the Atlantic and settle in America.
On occasion the hotel has private functions in it’s lounges, bar and restaurants that may affect their availability to our lodge guests.
For Guests booking over the Christmas & New Year period:
- Breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner are not available in the hotel from the afternoon of 24th until after breakfast on 27th December and again from the afternoon of 31st December until after breakfast on 2nd January.
- A pre-booked Christmas day lunch can be ordered to your lodge along with a restricted pre-booked lodge menu for the evenings of 24th, 26th, 31st December and 1st January.
- The main hotel bar and lounges are reserved exclusively for our hotel package guests on these days between noon and 8pm, but Smith’s Brasserie is open for drinks
- Prior to 24th December, 27th – 30th December and after 2nd January normal restaurant & bar opening times operate.
