The Royal George
This newly renovated Appledore restaurant with rooms, which dates back to the 18th century, is situated on the water’s edge, with fantastic views over the Taw and Torridge Estuary. The Royal George aims to deliver an exceptional menu of innovative dishes and traditional classics, using fresh and local ingredients. There’s a children’s menu too, and it’s a dog-friendly venue. The Royal George also offers Gourmet Food Boxes that can be prepared, heated and served at home or in your self-catering holiday cottage in 30 minutes or less.

Flame Factory
Flame Factory is a family-owned and run Appledore restaurant, in a beautiful Georgian building on the quay, is the place to go for wood-fired pizza, flame-grilled burgers and Taw Valley steaks. Gluten-free pizza bases and burger buns can be requested, as well as vegan cheese. The Flame Factory is dog-friendly, and takeaway is also available.

Johns of Appledore
Johns is a family business that offers local, homemade, seasonal and quality produce in its cafes, delis and grocers in Appledore and Instow. Food is freshly prepared to order and is worth the wait! The cafe is family and dog friendly. You’ll find breakfast items, homemade quiches, create-your-own salad bowls, sandwiches and toasties, bubble waffles and more on the menu. Many popular items are also available on the takeaway menu. You can pick up some gifts or ingredients for later in the deli, which has goodies from hundreds of local producers.

The Coffee Cabin
The Coffee Cabin in Appledore is a small, independent café on the quay front, overlooking the estuary. It is known for its warm, friendly atmosphere and cosy setting. The Coffee Cabin serves light lunches, hot drinks and homemade cakes with gluten-free options available. They also use fair-trade coffee.

Market Street Kitchen
This welcoming and inclusive Appledore cafe is a hidden gem behind the quay, with a wonderful secret garden. Market Street Kitchen is the place to go for a hearty breakfast, light lunch, cream tea, or coffee and cake. Everything is freshly prepared, baked in-house and locally sourced. Dogs are welcome to join their human companions. Gift vouchers are available.

Appledore pubs
There is a range of different Appledore restaurants and pubs with beamed ceilings, flagstone floors, comfy sofas, waterside views and a good range of local ciders and ales.
The Seagate
The Seagate is open all day for breakfast, sandwiches, light bites, pub classics, Sunday roasts, and fresh fish dishes. There’s an ever-changing specials board. Eat in the cosy pub or al fresco in the garden. There’s a children’s menu, and the pub is dog friendly.

The Beaver Inn
This small traditional Appledore restaurant and pub with over 400 years of history is known for its locally caught fish specials, friendly service, array of locally brewed ales, and entertainment line-up. At The Beaver Inn, there’s an outdoor patio if you want fresh sea air. Dogs are welcome in the bar area.

Fish and chips in Appledore
Appledore is known for its high-quality fish and seafood, which is often served just hours after it was brought in. Salmon, cod, bass, cockles and mussels are popular choices. If you want to cook your own, get some from Appledore Fish Dock.
Sylvester’s
Sylvester’s is such a small but popular fish and chip shop, you’ll probably have to wait outside for your takeaway. If you don’t, you can enjoy a pleasant chat with the friendly staff. Gluten-free options are available.

The Royal Plaice
At The Royal Plaice, you can enjoy a sit-down meal in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, or take your food away in eco-friendly packaging. Ingredients are sourced locally when possible and the chips are hand-cut daily. Next to the restaurant is a popular pub called The Royal, which allows punters to buy their fish and chips from The Royal Plaice and eat in the pub.
