Instow, home to some of our beautiful North Devon cottages, sits on the picturesque estuary where the rivers Taw and Torridge flow into the sea. Sailing boats and catamarans head out in summer and, at low tide, the golden beach is revealed, offering families a long swathe of soft sand – perfect for paddling and building castles. A summer passenger ferry links Instow with the village of Appledore on the opposite side of the estuary. When you’ve had your fill of sea air, find a spot by the fire in a local pub and warm up with a pint and a hearty meal. As for days out, you’ll be spoilt for choice! The beautiful grounds of Tapeley Park, just up the road, are lovely for a peaceful stroll, and Barnstaple is just a short drive away for some retail therapy and family attractions. Take to two wheels, or amble along the scenic Tarka Trail as it wends its way along the river towards Torrington, or the opposite way to Barnstaple.
